The air moves from humid to cool
Refreshing like a summer pool
Birds fly South to prepare
To live in autumn’s cold lair
Leaves turn red, orange, and brown
Then swiftly fall to the ground
Cozy sweaters and hot tea
Long, grey boots up to my knees
Reading books by the hearth
Dancing crimson flames with a spark
Flannel shirts and fuzzy socks
Hearing the chimes of my grandfather clock
Festivals, pumpkins, and horror shows
Halloween’s coming and anything goes
Mommy gets comfy while reading Stephen King
While her little girl dances in black fairy wings
Autumn guarantees that change for me
Can be beautiful, transforming, and free to be
