Words Unspoken is a collection of poetry by Madalina Coman. Madalina talks about love in four different sections: love, hurt, healing, and lessons. Love fills a person with many emotions, and Madalina describes each emotion beautifully. As a woman, I felt her emotions she wrote about being in a relationship. I think this book represents what all women feel if they are trying to heal from the wrong kind of love.
In the first section, Madalina speaks of all the new flutters of being in a relationship. Every woman can get caught up in the moments that make us feel good. We are eager to open up and make ourselves vulnerable for the right person. "Every woman who has ever loved with her while being has stardust stuck in the cracks of her heart." In my early twenties, I loved a person to such extent that I could not see the reality of the situation. I strove to please this man in hopes I would be satisfied. Little did I know, I needed to please myself.
The second section really hit home. The pain she writes about is unbearable. When we are in darkness, we cannot have hope for the future because their is no future without your person. All we can feel is the present moment. This feeling of depression and sadness swallows us whole. The light can only return if he does. "At night, the sky rains tears only my pillows know about." The worst thing about sadness is when a person keeps their agony to themselves. This intensifies the pain and keeps the hurt around longer.
The healing process of getting over a failed relationship is an eye opener. You begin to see things you never wanted to open your eyes up to. Your heart is at peace of letting go the toxins. Letting yourself feel your emotions helps us to process the past and move on. "There are oceans inside you raging to be heard and felt. Listen and allow yourself to feel."
My favorite part of a relationship gone wrong are the lessons. You realize your scars give you strength and your experience makes you a wiser woman. We begin to see our worth and promise ourselves not to settle for anything less than we deserve. This step truly makes us grow. "When you repeatedly give your best and it is never enough or it is taken for granted, when you feel more drained than rejuvenated around a certain person or crowd, when you need to explain yourself a little too often and a little too much it is not the time to wonder whether you are doing something wrong. It is the right time to realize that you are hanging around the wrong crowd."
This lovely collection earned a five star review from myself for modern day poetry. The poet expressed her emotions in a literary way that did not feel like a mere diary entry.
Each quoted line in each paragraph is a line from Madalina's book from her four sections.
